A short version of our guide on how to choose a seminary, for ticking off as you go.

Know what you want
  • Write down the three things you most want from the year
  • Decide how much of the day you want in class and how much learning in pairs
  • Decide whether Gemara, chesed, arts or Hebrew matter to you
  • Think about the setting: a city, a small town, a kibbutz or a village
  • Talk it through with your parents and one teacher who knows you
Build a shortlist
Check each school
  • Read the school's own website, not only what friends say
  • Speak to two students who were there in the last two years
  • Go to Israel night or a virtual open evening
  • Ask the price and what it includes
  • Ask our questions to ask a seminary
Apply
  • Note every deadline in the application tracker
  • Ask teachers for recommendations early
  • Order transcripts and any test scores
  • Prepare for the interview: why this school, and what you want to learn
  • Send the application and keep the confirmation
