The year in detail
As described on the school's own website. A missing heading means their site didn't say.
- Dates
- 2026-27: dorms open and group flight arrives Monday August 31, 2026; orientation September 1-4; second semester begins January 11, 2027; banquet June 8, 2027; dorm closes June 14, 2027 at 10am.
- A typical day
- The handbook says meals are served Sunday through Thursday and one afternoon a week is set aside for chesed. The calendar lists breaks at Sukkot, Chanukah, midwinter and Pesach.
- Shabbat
- About once a month there is a mandatory school Shabbaton, on campus or elsewhere in Israel. There are also optional "Staff Shabbat" weekends on campus. On all other Shabbatot the dorm is open and supervised, and students arrange meals with family, friends or staff, with help from the school. The dorm stays open during all vacations.
- Trips
- Two overnight trips (one in the south, one in the north), about seven one-day tiyulim and several half-day ones. An optional Poland trip costs extra (last year $1,650) and not every student is approved to go.
- Chesed and volunteering
- One afternoon a week is designated for chesed: helping Har Nof families, tutoring children, WIZO day care, Shalva, Gan Harmony, visiting the elderly ("Adopt a Bubby"), a clothing gemach, packing food for families, Zichron Menachem and medical clowning in hospitals. Mrs. Rena Gershenfeld coordinates placements.
- Campus and housing
- On the Neve Yerushalayim campus. Dorm building divided into apartments of 4-6 bedrooms (three students per bedroom) with kitchen, refrigerator and freezer. Dining hall with three meals Sunday-Thursday, washers and dryers on campus (small fee), music room with piano, art room, organic garden, campus safe for valuables.
- Rules they publish
- Dress code: elbows, neckline and knees covered, no slits above the knee, nothing tight, closed-toe shoes, in and out of school. Students must have a working cell phone with WhatsApp; smartphones are allowed, with some restrictions on where phones can be during school hours. Laptops and tablets are allowed. Music played out loud in the dorm must be Jewish music.
- After the year
- A Shana Bet (second year) program with its own courses; students can study Torah only, combine it with college coursework, or earn a bachelor's degree through colleges that grant degrees for work done in Israel. The site says American graduates typically go on to Stern College, Touro College or other universities.
